ABOUT THE ART: Acknowledgment

When you first walk by this installation, you may not notice the metal figures sitting in front of the painting. The figures, or ancestors, start to appear when you stop and take time to look. It is important that you acknowledge the past and the people who paved the way for you. There is no future without a past.

Acknowledgment is a sculpture installation honoring our ancestors. Marcus Garvey’s quote, “A people without knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots,” inspired this piece.
